The 3-part hook that grew 100K followers

Hey Friend,

Long time no see. I ended up taking a break and restructuring my newsletter. But we are back to regular weekly emails every Wednesday. With that said, let's dive in:

Here's the industry secret most creators don't ever talk about:

The algorithm doesn't determine who goes viral.

People do.

When someone is scrolling, their brain is making split-second decisions.

You have less than one second to stop them.

And if your content isn't getting shared, saved, or watched all the way through… it's not the algorithm's fault.

It's the packaging.

I learned this the hard way. I used to think my content just needed to be "good enough" and the algorithm would do the rest.

I was awkward on camera, didn't know how to open a video, and honestly didn't believe anyone would want to listen to what I had to say.

But then I made one video that gained me 50,000 followers.

That single video shattered every limiting belief I had about content creation.

And it came down to one thing: how I structured the first 10 seconds.

The 3 C's Framework

This is the exact hook structure I use for every piece of content now. It's simple, it works across any niche, and it takes about 30 seconds to write once you understand it.

1. Cliffhanger - Your first sentence needs to be polarizing. Bold. Curiosity-inducing. This is NOT the time to play it safe or be casual. You want to stop the scroll with something that makes them need to know what comes next.

Examples:

  • "Never do this if you want to grow online."
  • "Most people fail because they miss this one thing."
  • "Here's how my friend is gaining 500 followers every single day."

Use strong words: never, always, most important, biggest mistake, secret.

2. Credibility — Immediately after that bold claim, you need to prove why you're worth listening to. Drop your results, share an experience, or show where this information comes from.

This doesn't have to be salesy. It can be specific numbers, time frames, client stories, or even visual credibility (if you're a fitness creator who's clearly in shape, that's implied credibility).

3. Completion — This is your transition into the actual value. One sentence that signals: "We're getting into the good stuff now. I'm not wasting your time."

Something like:

  • "So here's exactly how to do it."
  • "I'm going to break this down in the next 2 minutes."
  • "The first step is…"

That's it. Three sentences back to back to back.

Those 10 seconds determine whether anyone sees the other 2 minutes of value you created.

The deeper principle here:

Content is emotion-provoking. That's why we watch it. That's why we share it.

Your job as a creator isn't to sound smart or flex your vocabulary. It's to provoke emotion and deliver value in a way that's easy to understand.

Alex Hormozi purposefully writes at a sixth-grade reading level. Jenny Hoyos (one of the most viral YouTubers right now) literally A/B tested vocabulary and found that "advanced" words like "profit" made her views go down.

Simple isn't dumb. Simple is shareable.

Here's a quick test: Would your grandma understand your hook? If not, it's probably too complicated.

The goal isn't to impress people with your knowledge. It's to help them actually get what you're saying so they can share it with someone else.

That's how content goes viral. Not through algorithms. Through people recognizing value and wanting to pass it on.

Talk soon,

Ethan
